Congratulations to our Newest CAE: Melissa Primus, Diversified Management Services, Inc.!

Welcome to the NEW ISAE eNewsletter!

We are pleased to introduce you to our new digital newsletter for ISAE.  Thanks to your Communications Committee, Phillip Nicolino and Amy Spike, we have a new design and layout.  This will give us an opportunity to keep in touch with you on a more regular basis and deliver more timely information.  We welcome any feedback as we explore this new avenue.

President's Message

Paul McLaughlin

The spirit of Herbert Hoover Lives!
Reverberations from the Herbert Hoover involvement in the WWI Belgium Food Relief program and after WWII world food needs assessment must be infiltrating ISAE.  One of the greatest accomplishments in the life of our only Iowa born President was his work in supplying food to the hungry*.  At recent ISAE roundtable discussions, the issue of excess food which seems to happen at many association events was addressed. In Iowa, there has been growing formalized efforts for Food Rescue and cities such as Iowa City, Ames and Des Moines have been specifically mentioned as problem solvers. For example: www.eatgreaterdesmoines.org, and www.table2table.org.   The power of social media and technology applications will soon make this donation process easier allowing coordination for real-time donations and retrieval capability.  Thanks to Food Rescue Des Moines Aubrey (Martinez) Alvarez for presenting at the January Roundtable.  Hopefully issues with legalities intermingled between the federal Good Samaritan Act and the local county board of health departments can be resolved and clarified - furthering the food donation processes to continue worry-free.

I am now doubly certified!
I recently passed the REALTOR Certified Executive (RCE) Exam and now am “certified” as a REALTOR® association professional.  Due to already having obtained the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation, the exam was a shortened version of their full exam, but kinda taxing nonetheless. I was happy to pass the test, but more so in that “I still got it” feeling of being able to take on a challenge, improve my mind, and keep abreast of new ideas, concepts, and theories.  As the only thing consistent really is change, I would encourage you to take on personal or professional “tests” and do something you need, want or dared yourself to do.

The thing that amazes me is the heartfelt congratulations I received from people I have never met who have the RCE designation or are currently studying for it.  I don’t know if this is the culture of this new relatively small “club” I have joined, but I was grateful to receive them, and was reminded on the greater power of a handwritten note, over the now, almost by default, email.

ISAE February Roundtable Discussion

Iowa Motor Truck Association,

717 E. Court Avenue, Des Moines, IA

TOPIC: Selecting Technologies to Meeting Your Association’s Needs

If you are struggling with your current technology, please plan to join us for this roundtable. Often, budget constraints push associations to apply technology band-aids. What many associations need is a technology plan that takes into consideration the organizational capacity, flexibility and ability to adapt to future needs. Conversation will cover ideas on how to implement functional, integrated information management systems including, but is not limited to, databases, mobile devices, cloud computing, hardware and software. Come prepared to share ideas and ask questions of each other.

These roundtables are free to attend for ISAE members and for first-time non-member guests. If non-members of ISAE are attending their second or more roundtable discussion, there is a fee of $20.
