1:30PM- 3:00PM Educational Session 1

Title: Building a More Strategic Board Through Trends Awareness

Speaker:  Sue Pine

If you are a little intimidated or unsure of how big global trends could or would have an impact on your association, you’re not alone! This session will drive home the value of incorporating trends-watching into your association’s strategic planning process and provide concrete steps for integrating this when you return home.

Join us for this hand-on session where you will have a chance to understand the difference between environmental scanning (trends-watching) and strategic planning. Session attendees will hear the latest information from the ASAE Foundation Foresight Project and have a chance to have a peer-to-peer discussion relative to the potential impact of the trend and then possible responses that would drive association tactics.

Designed for any staff person who has responsibility for strategic planning and/or program development or who thinks about keeping their association relevant in the future, this nuts and bolts interactive session challenges attendees to roll-up their sleeves and walk through a process that they can replicate with their own association leaders.

About the Speaker:

is the VP of Professional Development at AH as well as the Senior Director of NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers). 1:30PM- 3:00PM Educational Session 2

Title: Surviving Violent Encounters and Crisis Management Panel

Panel Members:  Vicky McKim, Aureon; Megan Baker, Association of Boards of Certification; Michelle DeClerk, CEM

The purpose of SVE (Surviving Violent Encounters) is to empower individuals with mindset training, improved decision making, and available survival strategies during an act of violence such as an “active killer” or other work place violence situations. Since childhood, we have been trained to react to fires, tornadoes, floods and other types of disasters. SVE is no different. Our research and experience has helped us identify what has worked in past violent incidents around the world. The techniques and principles we teach are flexible and may be adapted to any violent encounter. SVE also teaches the importance of recognizing and reporting suspicious behavior. When threats are identified early, the proper resources can be used to help mitigate and possibly prevent acts of violence. Preparation is key for any situation we face in life; the more prepared we are, the better we perform.

Following the SVE presentation will be a panel discussion from members of the meetings industry sharing their stories and experiences of crisis management. Hear how they handled these stressful situations and get tips on creating your own crisis management plan.
