President's Message
Michelle Hurd, CAE

As we start a new fiscal year, I would like to thank all members for renewing your membership and commitment to ISAE. ISAE just closed the books on an outstanding fiscal year. Last year the association hosted superior programs and enjoyed record attendance. The ISAE staff, board of directors and committees have been hard at work to build on that positive momentum. Members can look forward to another year of top-notch programming that will help strengthen attendance as well as provide opportunities to build key professional relationships. Make sure to mark your calendars and plan to attend the quarterly meetings scheduled for September 25, November 20, February 26, and April 23.

Last year ISAE participated in a community service project by supporting the United Way’s Read to Succeed program. Over the course of several months, ISAE members collected and donated more than 1,100 books. Spurred on by tremendous participation and success, board members were eager to find another worthy cause to support.

ISAE has chosen to join with Best Buddies of Iowa as a philanthropic partner this year. This organization creates one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities around the state of Iowa (BestBuddies.org/Iowa).

Currently, our ISAE Associate Members have been asked to consider a donation to Best Buddies of Iowa Chef Challenge Silent Auction on October 5th! This is a large fundraising campaign critical to the Best Buddies organization. You can learn more about the Best Buddies of Iowa 2017 Chef Challenge at https://www.bestbuddies.org/iowachef/.

CEO/Volunteer Symposium 2017
Location: Iowa Motor Truck Association
Time: 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM

Any association executive knows the secret to getting things done in associations is working effectively with the volunteer leaders. ISAE will be offering a one day program aimed at providing association executives the opportunity to bring their chief elected officers together to learn how to work together to accomplish the goals of the association.

The program is designed to give you the tools to set priorities for your association and to determine how best to work together in a strong volunteer-staff partnership. ISAE members are encouraged to have a Board member attend this opportunity with them, but having a Board member attend the meeting is not required for registration.

Presenter: Michael Gallery, PhD, CAE

This exciting program will be facilitated by Michael Gallery, PhD, CAE of Dallas, Texas. He is the founder of Organizational Performance Improvement Systems (OPIS). Dr. Gallery combines 24 years of experience as an association executive with his academic training in human performance technology to bring clients expertise in strategic planning, team building, program evaluation, leadership training, staff and volunteer performance development and group facilitation. Michael has a long history of leadership in the association management profession.  REGISTER ONLINE BY: NOVEMBER 1, 2017

This article is the third in a series of articles on governance documents. It is the second article on bylaws and addresses provisions relating to the board of directors of an organization.
