Certified Meeting Professionals (CMP) Study Group

Two of our ISAE Members, Jill Olson and Darcy Burnett with the Iowa Bankers' Association, formed the first ISAE study group to prepare other members to take their CMP Exam this year.

As a result, we had two members take and pass their exam in August and two more pass in November, 2017! The list of ISAE members who are Certified Meeting Professionals is growing in numbers.

Congratulate our NEW CMP's in 2017:

  • Katrina Davis, Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives
  •  Shana Davison, Iowa Credit Union League
  • Denise Hoffman, Association Management, Ltd.
  • Kelsey Sebern, Iowa State Association of Counties

If you are interested in more information on the CMP accreditation or wish to prepare to take the exam in 2018, please join us for the informational meeting to be held prior to the ISAE Annual Membership Meeting on April 23, 2018.

We'll review the CMP application process and answer questions about the application, exam, and anything else you might need to know. If there is enough interest, the group will put together a meeting/study schedule to be held at the Iowa Bankers Association office in Johnston.

For more information or to join the study group contact Darcy Burnett at dburnett@iowabankers.com or 515-286-4352.

Meeting Date Schedule:

How much does it cost?
Just your time and effort. ISAE does not charge for the study group. However, all test fees and books are on your own.

What do I do next?

REGISTER! CLICK HERE!

We ask that you register in advance so we know how many are planning to attend, even though there isn't a registration fee.

THEN, attend the Informational Session on April 23 at 10:30 AM, before the ISAE quarterly meeting at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel.

This will be an introductory session to answer questions, and discuss the study schedule. Each session will then focus on a test domain with specific reading assignments each week. There will be quizzes and sample questions that may or may not relate to the reading, but will prepare you for the test.

The sessions will cover the ten domains that cover the following areas:
1. Strategic Planning
2. Project Management
3. Risk Management
4. Financial Management
5. Human Resources
6. Stakeholder Management
7. Meeting or Event Design
8. Site Management
9. Marketing
10. Professionalism

Required Reading
You will be given an outline with subjects to be covered at the first study session. It will be your responsibility to read the required chapters and be prepared to discuss the subject matter. Other tips and information will be given to you at various times as needed.

o CIC Manual – 9th Edition
o CIC Industry Glossary
o Professional Meeting Management – 6th Edition

Set up your account at CIC and Apply to be a CMP!
Before you can take the exam, you must complete the CMP application to demonstrate eligibility. You can start the process here, but if you have questions, talk to us at class. https://myaccount.conventionindustry.org/Profile/Setup/Form.aspx

Why should I get my CMP Certification?
It takes a lot of time and effort to become certified. There are study group sessions, exams and you will need to spend time studying on your own. It is not easy, it's time consuming and often frustrating. However, the rewards are well worth your time. We all work in a fast paced, hurry up world and lack of time is the most often used excuse. But anything of value comes with a price. Take the time to learn and to grow.

These designations are the industry's highest achievement awards. They say that you have taken the time to learn your profession; you take pride in the industry and that you want to be ranked among the industry's finest.

Welcome to the CMP Study Group!
